CARLISLE BUSINESSES CONTRIBUTE TO WORK TO INCREASE EMPLOYMENT LAND CHOICE

8.2.2010

CARLISLE Renaissance is to work with the public and private sector to make sure the city maximises the economic benefits of the M6 Motorway as part of the overall economic strategy for the district. Part of this is to ensure that Carlisle has an adequate supply of employment land in the right place, in the right location and developed at the right time, not only in the immediate future but for the next 20 years and beyond.

Businesses are being urged to tell us their growth aspirations, as part of work to help local people and businesses of Carlisle benefit from a suitable choice of employment land in the future.

A cross section of Carlisle companies will be contacted over the coming week by leading property consultancy DTZ. Assisted by local property agent Walton Goodland, DTZ are carrying out a land review and so are asking what local businesses think, particularly about their growth aspirations and how that will drive demand for future employment land provision.

Chris Pearson, Development Manager for Carlisle Renaissance, said: “It is vital that the city has a range of employment sites suitable for various uses. These must be in the right locations and developed over a number of years, to fully unlock the benefits of the M6 corridor for local people, businesses, and the economy. We’re asking a over 300 local companies to assist us in this important issue. DTZ will be contacting businesses across the next few weeks to find out their views.”

The information gathered will also act as a definitive evidence base that is required in the formation of the Local Development Framework as being compiled by the City Council and will act as the statutory planning framework for the city.
