About Cumbria Vision

Cumbria Vision is the organisation driving forward the economic regeneration of England's most beautiful and unique county.

We are a sub-regional partnership established by the Northwest Regional Development Agency in 2005 to galvanise public and private sector stakeholders and bring a single direction to Cumbria’s significant regeneration agenda, which spans both urban and rural concerns.

For the past two years Cumbria Vision and partners within the public and private sectors have been working together to establish a single set of clear and deliverable economic priorities for Cumbria. We have worked through a process of analysis that has identified Cumbria’s key strengths and what needs to be done strategically to build on them for the benefit of the whole County. At the same time we have brought together in a single document all the economically relevant projects within the County that are currently at some stage of conception, planning or development.

The result is the Cumbria Economic Strategy – a document which sets a clear direction for the next 10 years; and the Sub Regional Action Plan – which contains 20 priority regeneration projects that will either progress or be completed over the next three years, and in the long term could create more than 11,000 new jobs.

Our Purpose

By leading economic regeneration in Cumbria, Cumbria Vision will transform the County through integrated, transformational and sustainable economic development into a competitive, high added value, knowledge based, inclusive economy.

We will:

• Promote the ambition of Cumbria at a regional, national, European and international level
• Lead the development of an evidence-based sub-regional economic strategy for Cumbria
• Manage the delivery of economic development and regeneration activity in Cumbria
• Ensure delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy in Cumbria
• Maximise and manage the flow of external funding and investment into Cumbria, including North West Regional Development Agency and European Union funds
• Lead the economic component of Cumbria Strategic Partnership’s activity
• Hold the range of economic and regeneration delivery agents to account within an agreed framework

How we will do this

We will :

• Work to create an environment in which Cumbria business can flourish
• Set investment and development priorities for Cumbria
• Achieve greater integration between economic development and regeneration organisations based on the agreed priorities within the Cumbria Economic Plan
• Decide where and when public sector investment is required
• Oversee, monitor and evaluate delivery of public funded projects, including the North West Regional Development Agency’s Strategic Investment Plan, the rural regeneration programme and the Urban Regeneration Company programme of activity for Barrow and West Cumbria
• Look for efficiency savings that will release additional resources for programme delivery
• Seek to draw down additional funding for Cumbria wherever appropriate opportunities exist
• Establish baseline data for the Cumbria economy and monitor progress against the baseline
• Commission research to inform decision-making
