Councillor Tony Markley Councillor Tony Markley is Cumbria County Council portfolio holder for economic development. Tony was born in Abbeytown and has lived in Silloth for more than 30 years. He set up his own successful haulage business, Markley Transport, which he ran for three decades, delivering goods throughout Britain and Europe. Although he sold the haulage operation a couple of years ago, he continues to operate one lorry alongside a coach and mini bus hiring firm in Silloth. He has been a Silloth Town Councillor, school governor and Rotarian for around 20 years, a member of Allerdale District for six years and a county councillor, representing Solway Coast, since 2005. Tony is the Allerdale Borough Council councillor for the Holme ward and is also chairman of Community Renewable Energy (CORE) NW – an organisation that promotes, develops and manages community owned profitable renewable energy systems in partnership with community based organisations. www.cumbriacc.gov.uk
