Councillor Tim Knowles

Councillor Tim Knowles is Cumbria County Council portfolio holder for environment

Representing Labour, he is Cumbria County Council councillor for Cleator Moor North Frizington and Copeland Borough Council councillor for Frizington. As well as being a Cumbria Vision director he is also a Director of the West Lakes Renaissance board and Britain's Energy Coast West Cumbria.

Tim has had a varied career in the nuclear import/export and retail sectors. He has 20 years experience of senior management in the nuclear industry. As Works Secretary at British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) Sellafield plant he was responsible for the site's non-technical services, including transport, finance, security, stakeholder and media relations. In the latter part of his BNFL career, while Head of Corporate Affairs, he played a key role in developing the Company’s political lobbying capacity and its linked economic development strategy.

Tim has also undertaken consultancy work for the Centre for Regional Economic Development and the Department of Trade and Industry, covering a number of projects ranging from reviewing governance structures in England and Scotland to Nuclear Decommissioning related economic regeneration solutions in Ukraine.
